When the days turn shorter and I am looking for a torch to get to the car in the morning, I know it won’t be long before that feeling that this really has been a long year starts kicking in. The month of November, if I were a marathon runner (I am not, never was, never will be, I wear ‘fashion trainers’, not ‘running shoes’…) is probably like the last long section before the end straight. You need to keep going, you need to find all the motivation you have and use that year long training to persevere, with a sportingly positive attitude and a smile on your face. But inside you are tired, weary, thinking about holidays, resting, escaping and just simply having a lie down. That could possibly be just how I feel, but stay with me…. So, what does that make December? Well, seeing the word December in my calendar would perhaps be like seeing the finish line! It makes my heart jump with joy, floods my body with renewed energy because I think I will actually make it, there is fun times and celebrations on the other side and … if we are a little lucky and really go for it… there will be gold! Now coming back to the point that I am definitely not the running type, my self-motivational version of the ‘gold’ is that I allow myself to wear considerably more glitter and shimmer in December than the rest of the year, and to my immense joy a recent goody bag from Space NK contained a glorious new Face illuminator from Laura Mercier. Once you open the generous size compact, you can see why my immediate thought was ‘yessss, Rio Gold for me’! The round but textured pressed illuminator powder presented the most beautiful wave like ripples which made it look more like cast metal than a beauty product.
Offered in 4 different illuminating shades, my particular sample is called ‘Seduction’ but if you want to try the other 3, -the slightly lighter ‘Indiscretion’, the warmer ‘Devotion’ or the more champagne toned ‘Addiction’- you could treat yourself to one of each or even better, buy the limited edition ‘Fall in love Face Illuminator Collection‘ which is a set of all four.
Now, as you can see from this post’s feature photo, I don’t think I need more ‘gold’ in my makeup bag at the moment. My trusted Charlotte Tilbury ‘Filmstar Bronze & Glow’ has still a lot of parties left in it, my ‘Meteorites’ by Guerlain playing a more delicate twinkling support role next to the all-out shimmerfest that is Urban Decay’s ‘Naked Illuminated‘. So one new illuminator is enough for me right now but I am looking forward to having a play with it. A gentle brush stroke of product leaves a near invisible trail of glimmer that only reveals itself in wavering light. It will make people look twice, are you wearing an illuminator or are you just looking particularly well? You will not look like an escaped member of the Twilight saga Cullen clan when you step into daylight! The red algae content is reassuring from a skin care point of view, previous reviews have talked about an 8-hour staying power which sounds perfect for the party season….. now if I could just get to the 1st of December and bring out the gold! Surely we all deserve a gold medal for having gotten this far! I can’t wait and if we meet on that day, let’s see if I am suddenly imbued with that radiant glow that says ‘I have done it, I got over the line and shall enjoy December with gold on me to prove it, then the illuminator is doing its magic. Have a great week ahead everyone and next blog will be about ‘Le Metier de Beaute’.
